Overview

Poonhill Hill – Ghandruk Trek is one of the short and beautiful treks in the Annapurna region. People from all age group can easily finish this trek within a week. This trek is suitable for those who don’t have much time and physical stamina to go into the remote and longer treks in the Himalayan but want to experience the essence of Trekking and explore the beautiful hills and country side of Nepal.
The start of the trek is from Nayapul and during the trek you will ascend up and descend down many hills and villages. You will climb along ridges through rhododendrons, oak and pine forests along with waterfalls.
The fascinating and joyous part of the trek is on the day when you wake up very early in the morning you hike an hour uphill through the stairs and into the rhododendron forest to Poon Hill at an altitude of 3210. The view tower at the top of the hills provides an unobstructed view of the sunrise over the towering Himalayas. From here you could enjoy the view of more than 20 of the highest mountains including close views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges.
After Poohhill, the other fascinating part of the trek is you will descend steep through the thick, dense and dark forests of old rhododendron trees. During the trek you will get an opportunity to see different species of birds and varieties of plants. You will continue descend through forests and into open landscapes to reach Ghandruk: a village of Gurung people, one of the ethnic groups of Nepal nestled in a slope with stone houses. Ghandruk village is a home to many Gurkha soldiers and gurung people have their own culture, dialect, and way of lifestyles. Here, you will enjoy spectacular towering views of Fishtail, Annapurna South and Hiunchuli mountains.
On the final day you will descend all the way down through the stone stairs, crossing many villages and terraced farmlands and forests along the way until you reach Birethanti. Birethanti is situated on the confluence of the Modi and Bhurungdi River and is a booming village lined with rows of guesthouses. From Birethanti, a half an hour trek will take you to Nayapul from where you will ride on a bus to Pokhara city.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival at Kathmandu International Airport. Transfer to Hotel. Dinner at typical Nepalese restaurant with cultural dance. Overnight at Hotel in Kathmandu.

Upon Arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, you will be escorted to your hotel room by our representative. Rest for a while. In the evening, you will have a Welcome dinner with our representative at one of the typical Nepalese Restaurant. You will be entertained in evening by cultural dances. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2

Drive to Nayapul -1070m (8 hours ) via Pokhara and trek to Hille-1430m (3 hours)

Today early morning you will drive through the villages, farmlands, highway side villages along the bank of Trishuli River until you reach the first half of the ride. After Mugling town, you will be passing along the bank of Marsyangdi River. During the 8 hours of drive you will see many different villages, terraced farmlands, rivers and forest with the glimpse of mountains in some sections of the road. You will drive past the Pokhara city and follow the winding and uphill road ahead for 1 hours and then gradually drive about an hour down through the forest of Kande until you reach Nayapul. Nayapul is a little town nestle at the bank of Modi Khola and is the start point of your trek. You will then trek for about 45 minutes following the bank of the Modi River crossing small villages until you reach Birethanti village. You will then ascent through the villages, terraced farmlands along the bank of Bhurungdi Kola until you reach the village of Hille. Overnight at a guesthouse.

Day 3

Trek from Hille to Ghorepani- 2860m (6-7 hours)

After breakfast you will you ascent through thousands of steep stairs which will be test of your stamina until you reach Ulleri. Ulleri is a large Magar village which lies at an altitude of 2070 m. After Ulleri you will gently ascend through fine forests of rhododendron and oak before you reach Banthali village. Then you will continue trek towards Nangethanti villages. Then after an hour of walk you will reach at Ghorepani (2,840m). Ghorepani used to an important camping site for the traders as the name is derived from Ghoda (horse) and Pani (water). The town is divided into two parts: one nestle at the ridge and the other at few hundred feet lower. You will stop at the higher part of the town that offers magnificent views of surrounding mountains including Nilgiri and South Annapurna. You will feel the breezing of winds and chilly weather in the evening. Today you sleep early since the next day you have to wake up very early for sunrise view at Poonhill. Overnight at a guesthouse.

Day 4

Hike up to Poonhill( 1 hour) – 3210m, and trek to Tadapani-2630m. (6 hours)

Today, very early in the morning you will hike an hour uphill through the stairs and into the rhododendron forest to Poon Hill at an altitude of 3210. From the top of the hill you could see the spectacular range of mountains. The view tower provides an unobstructed view of the sunrise over the towering Himalayas. From here you could enjoy the view of more than 20 of the highest mountains including close views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. You will spend an hour taking pictures and immersing yourself into the nature, and then you will hike down to Ghorepani and take a hot breakfast at a hotel. Then you will climb along ridges through rhododendrons, oak and pine forests until you rechDeurali. After that you will descend through dense forest of rhododendron, passing spectacular waterfalls to the Banthali village. You will gently trek down to the river and an hour of ascend will take you to the village of Tadapani. Overnight at a guesthouse.

Day 5

Trek from Tadapani to Ghandruk-1940m ( 4-5 hours)

From Tadapani, you will descend steep through the thick, dense and dark forests of old rhododendron trees. In this day you will get an opportunity to see different species of birds and varieties of plants. You will continue descend through forests and into an open landscapes to reach Ghandruk: a village of Gurung people, one of the ethnic groups of Nepal nestled in a slope with stone houses. Ghandruk village is a home to many Gurkha soldiers and gurung people have their own culture, dialect, and way of lifestyles. Here, you will enjoy spectacular towering views of Fishtail, Annapurna South and Hiunchuli mountains and in afternoon you will explore the village and visit museums. Overnight at a guesthouse.

Day 6

Trek from Ghandruk to Nayapul (4 hours) and drive to Pokhara ( 2 hours)

Today after breakfast, you will trek downhill all the way to Birethanti. You will descend all the way down through the stone stairs, crossing many villages and terraced farmlands and forests along the way until you reach Birethanti. Birethanti is situated on the confluence of the Modi and Bhurungdi River and is a booming village lined with rows of guesthouses. From Birethanti, a half an hour trek will take you to Nayapul. Your trek on foot will end at Nayapul. You will then drive an hour to reach Pokhara. Overnight at hotel in Pokhara.

Day 7

Transfer to Kathmandu International Airport for departure.

Enjoy your breakfast in the morning. Our representative will pick you up from your hotel, depending on your departure time. We will drop you to the airport for your departure. While onboard, rejoice all the beautiful moments that you have gone through during your stay in Nepal.
